Ways to Quit Smoking - Support & Counseling

Support and counseling is more of a secondary way to help keep you from smoking while you are quitting using another method. This method relies on group meetings and/or individual counseling sessions to help people stop smoking. Many communities provide meetings for smoking cessation groups You can also see a therapist who specializes in helping people to quit smoking.

How Does It Work?

In the group approach, this is similar to the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. There is a 12 step method for quitting smoking. Look for Nicotine Anonymous meetings in your community.

Are Support Groups Effective For Helping Me Quit Smoking?

It has certainly worked for Alcoholics Anonymous. However the physical addiction to nicotine is very strong, so if you are using this approach only and quitting cold turkey you could find it difficult.

However if you attend group counseling sessions to help you while you are following one of the other quit smoking methods like the patch or hypnotherapy, you will definitely  benefit from the added support.
